Babson College is a founding institution and lead sponsor of the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM). GEM is a global consortium that conducts research on 66 world economies. GEM brings together over 400 researchers from across the globe and includes more than 100 institutions every year. The first report was published in 1999. Students can choose from over 100 entrepreneurship courses offered each year and taught by 42 tenure or tenure track faculty, all with entrepreneurship experience.
With one of the nine entrepreneurial framework components being entrepreneurial finance, this report includes data regarding discontinuation may be due to lack of business profitability, problems with accessing finance and running out of working capital. The recommendations focus on key areas identified as constraining entrepreneurial activity in a number of economies, including access to finance and cultural norms, as well as ways to promote entrepreneurship among women and the youth.
