The gap between demand for and supply of financing for smallholder farmers in the developing world is estimated at over $400 billion. Agricultural technical assistance, when provided effectively, can address many of the constraints to the expansion of smallholder financing. This brief discusses three key activities that need to happen in the agricultural technical assistance market to expand financing for smallholder farmers.
