The following is a guest post from Greg Kelly, founder and CEO of the new Brazilian equity crowdfunding platform EqSeed. Kelly discusses the equity crowdfunding space in Brazil, obstacles to growth, and the promising regulatory landscape in the country.
Alongside its success in the UK and US, equity crowdfunding is also finding its way to emerging economies. One such market is Brazil, where I am the founder of EqSeed, a new platform bringing equity crowdfunding to South America’s largest economy. Applying this new financial innovation in developing economies presents myriad new challenges. Perhaps the most prominent one stems from the fact that, unlike the developed economies in which equity crowdfunding is currently thriving, emerging market countries do not tend to have a strong culture of equity investment.
